Every month, we have been holding a whole school assembly in the school gym. All classes collect gold coins for kind actions and words around the school, and these are counted at assembly. The winning class gets a prize, as well as the Gold Coins trophy for the month!
As well as this, classes are given the opportunity to share some of their learning with the rest of the school. So far, 3rd class have presented their reports and art work on Castlecomer. 5th class showed us their eco-homes made from recycled material, and their projects on Ireland's main tourism sites. 2nd class showed their work in art, history and religion, while 4th class spoke about 'Babe, the Sheep Pig', the novel they are currently reading and their reports on native Irish mammals. Fionn, from 6th class, presented his special interest project on the History of Castlecomer. More to come in the series as the year progresses. Well done to all!
Transition Year students from Castlecomer Community School have volunteered their time to partkae in Buddy Reading with pupils from 3rd and 4th class. This has taken place in the school gym and in the library. We look forward to some more sessions both before and after Christmas.
We held a school mass and mural unveiling on Friday, 21st November. Fr. Scriven celebrated mass, during which the children did readings and sang beautifully. The colours of the day were yellow for Scoil Íosagáin, blue for Presentation Convent and green for Castlecomer BNS. This was followed by the unveiling of our school mural, which was designed by Paul Bokslag with the pupils of the school, as part of Creative Schools. The butterfly symbolises the transformation that our school has recently undergone through amalgamation.
We were grateful to Bishop Coll for celebrating mass with us on Monday, 8th December, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. He returned to the school afterwards to bless both the building and its pupils with water collected from different areas around Castlecomer.
We celebrated Mrs. Jacob's retirement on Wednesday, 22nd October. She was recognised by staff and pupils, both past and present, for the invaluable contribution she made to both Presentation Convent and Scoil Íosagáin over her 32 year career. We wish Mrs. Jacob well in her retirement.
